Andorra has three public, free education systems
Yes, public and free. Not one, but three state-funded education systems coexist in the Principality. There are currently around 11,000 pupils in non-university education in Andorra.
Although all three public systems are free, Catalan is compulsory in all schools. Children arriving without Catalan will go through a language integration process — worth knowing in advance.
The youngest learners
Early childhood education: from 4 months
Andorra has a network of llars d’infants (nurseries) welcoming babies from 4 months. From age 3, the maternal stage begins with enrolment close to 98%. Primary education is compulsory from age 6, with small classes and near-personalised attention.

Compulsory education covers ages 6 to 16.

Several pathways coexist depending on the system chosen:
Spanish system
Fully homologated Spanish baccalaureate, identical to one obtained anywhere in Spain.
French system
The official French baccalauréat with the same conditions of access to French universities.
Andorran system
Recognised in Spain and France through bilateral agreements. In some cases the UNED (PCE) exam may be required for Spanish university access.
International Baccalaureate (IB) — Agora International School
Recognised by over 5,000 universities worldwide. IB PYP for primary implemented since 2023.

Are Andorran qualifications recognised abroad?
The answer is yes, in most cases, with nuances depending on the system chosen and the destination country.
If you know which country your children want to study in, choose the system that facilitates that access from the start. Spanish system → Spanish university. Baccalauréat → French university. IB → virtually any university in the world.

Located in L’Aldosa (La Massana), part of the Globeducate group. Authorised IB Examination Centre since 2020. IB PYP since 2023. Notable high-performance sport programme.
British College of Andorra
Follows the British National Curriculum. Particularly suitable for families from English-speaking countries.

Higher education
Is there a university in Andorra?
Yes. The Universitat d’Andorra (UdA), founded in 1988, is a member of the European University Association (EUA) and the Erasmus+ programme. It operates within the European Higher Education Area.
The UdA is a small university with a limited range of degrees. Many young people choose to continue their studies abroad. The multilingualism acquired in Andorra prepares them well for that transition. The government provides a scholarship system to support studies abroad.
Continuing education and postgraduate
What if I want to keep developing professionally?
The UdA offers master’s programmes and postgraduate courses aimed at working professionals, in blended and virtual formats.

Universitat Europea d’Andorra (eUniv)
A newer private institution with general and specialist centres, including the J.H. Newman Doctoral School.
What Andorra cannot offer (and how to work around it)
The local MBA offering is limited. Barcelona ~3 hours away (ESADE, IESE, UPF) and Toulouse ~2 hours away (Toulouse Business School). Online learning is increasingly making location irrelevant.

Andorra as a place to grow up: beyond the classroom
Andorra offers something increasingly hard to find: safety, nature and space. Some of the highest safety indices in Europe, minimal crime, and daily access to skiing, hiking and the mountains.
To be honest: the cultural and leisure offer is more limited than in a large city, and higher education usually means leaving the country. But for many families, that balance — nature, safety, quality education and multilingualism — is exactly what they are looking for.
